27 Aug

The Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (JCCCNC) will host a workshop led by Chester Hashizume from 1 to 3 p.m., at 1840 Sutter St. in SF’s Japantown, on unearthing one’s Japanese ancestry. Participants will learn how to explore their roots and family tree, including how to identify their Japanese ancestral hometown. Participants will also learn about obtaining and utilizing family documents and how to determine the meaning behind surnames and family crests. The workshop costs $5 for JCCCNC members, $7 for non-members. Nikkei Family Legacy Project participants can attend free of charge. Space is limited, so advanced registration is suggested.
