SJ: “Great Grandfather’s Drum” film screening

San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin, 640 North Fifth St., San Jose’s Japantown, will present a showing “Great Grandfather’s Drum” as a benefit for the Great East Japan Earthquake. This documentary celebrates Japanese American culture and history in Hawai‘i through taiko. Film follows Maui Taiko, a contemporary drum ensemble, as they travel to their ancestral roots in in Fukushima, Japan before the disaster. At the event Kay Fukumoto will teach Fukushima Ondo, a traditional folk dance and San Jose Taiko will make an appearance. There will be food sales and a raffle. Doors open at 11 a.m., movie begins at noon. Tickets: $20, $10 for seniors, 80 years and above and children, available at the church office or at the door. Info: kna1023@sbcglobal.net.
