SJ: “Great Grandfather’s Drum” film screening

The Sangha Support Committee of the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin, 640 North Fifth St., San Jose’s Japantown, will present a showing “Great Grandfather’s Drum” as a benefit for the Great East Japan Earthquake. This documentary celebrates Japanese American culture and history in Hawai‘i through taiko. Film follows Maui Taiko, as they travel to their ancestral roots in Fukushima, Japan before the disaster. Kay Fukumoto will teach Fukushima Ondo, a traditional folk dance and San Jose Taiko will perform There will be food sales and a raffle. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the movie will begin at noon. Tickets: $20 and $10 for seniors, 80 years and above and children, available at the church office or at the door. Info: Karen Akahoshi, kna1023@sbcglobal.net.
