The 42nd Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) National Convention will be held at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel and Spa, 1755 N. Highland Ave., Hollywood, Calif. The convention will honor, Father Vien The Nguyen, a former pastor who fought the plan to turn his New Orleans community into a toxic landfill after Hurricane Katrina; Lisa Hasegawa, the executive director of the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development, the first national advocacy organization dedicated to housing and community development needs of low-income Asian American Pacific Islanders and Lt. Dan Choi, an Iraq veteran who was discharged for announcing he is gay on national television. Full registration is $300 for adults and $250 for youth and students.
