Buddhist Church of San Francisco

1881 Pine St.

Founded in 1898, the Buddhist Church of San Francisco is the oldest Jodo Shinshu (Pure Land) Buddhist Church in America. In December 1913, they moved to their current location. The congregation soon outgrew this first building, and in 1935 replaced it with the larger church you see today. On the roof of this church is a stupa that houses the Holy Relics of The Buddha, a gift to the BCA by the Emperor of Siam (Thailand) in 1935.
