The 18-acre Hakone Gardens was established in 1915, and describes itself as “one of the oldest Japanese and Asian estate gardens in the Western Hemisphere,” and “an authentic replica of Japanese samurai or shogun’s estate garden.” Summer hours: Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Winter hours: Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
