JCCCNC’s ‘Shimenawa Decoration Workshop’
The Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California will host a “Shimenawa Decoration Workshop” from 2 to 3 p.m. at 1840 Sutter St. in S.F.’s Japantown. JCCCNC staff will teach you how to make the “circular rice straw rope that’s often displayed on cars or in front of houses on New Year’s Day in Japan to ward off evil spirits and bring in the New Year! Registration includes one kit of supplies needed, to design your very own unique shimenawa to take home and enjoy as a way to celebrate the New Year. … No experience required!” Cost: $25 JCCCNC members, $30 general. https://www.jcccnc.org/events/shimenawa-decoration-workshop/
