In 1902, Shojiro Tatsuno opened the first Nichi Bei Bussan in what is now San Francisco’s Chinatown, carrying American goods that catered to the immigrant Japanese population. In 1948 Tatsuno’s son Dave opened a branch in San Jose’s Japantown, which was remodeled in 1973.
