Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy who allegedly kicked an elderly woman as he was getting off a Muni bus last month in San Francisco’s Japantown.
Video of the incident showed the 79-year-old woman boarding the 38 Line coach at Geary Boulevard and Laguna Street at about 11:20 a.m. on Dec. 3, and the suspect kicking her in the abdomen with enough force to knock her down.
The woman hit her head on a railing as she fell, and she was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, San Francisco police said. The suspect got off the bus and left the scene after the attack.
Investigators interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance video, and juvenile probation officers identified the suspect as a 17-year-old San Francisco resident who was currently in custody at a juvenile facility in Contra Costa County for another case.
The suspect was booked on Dec. 29 into the San Francisco Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of aggravated assault and elder abuse.
